The South Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame was established in 1991. It is intended primarily to honor leaders in the aviation industry. In more than 15 years, almost 50 aviation enthusiasts have been recognized and honored by the South Carolina Aviation Association (SCAA) as inductees in the Hall of Fame. Here is the list.

Each year at the association's Annual Conference, the members of the Hall of Fame and the newest inductees are recognized and celebrated. Nominations for the 2007 South Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame are now being accepted, and these individuals will be honored at the Annual Conference to be held in Hilton Head February 8-10, 2008.

To nominate an individual, please use the recently updated criteria noted below and using the form included, submit the requested information to SCAA Headquarters by July 15. Mail should be sent to SCAA Hall of Fame, PO Box 12067, Columbia, SC 29211.

Hall of Fame Criteria

1. It is not necessary to have a Hall of Fame inductee every year.
2. Nominees should be reviewed by the appropriate FAA or DOA officials to ensure there are no concerns or reasons why the person should not be nominated.
3. Nominations should stand for 2 years.
4. The nominee should have a minimum 25 years involvement with aviation.
5. The nominee should be a leader in the aviation community or have made a significant contribution to aviation above and beyond a normal career.
6. The nominee should have close ties with South Carolina.

Aviator of the Year Criteria

1. It is not necessary to have an Aviator of the Year every year.
2. The nominee should be a true aviator (pilot).
3. The nominee’s accomplishment in aviation should be verifiable and attached to the application.
4. The nominee should have achievements above and beyond a normal pilot.
5. Nominations should stand for 2 years.

All Nominees should

• demonstrate/or have demonstrated ethical conduct and responsibility toward associates in the industry
  and community.
• have/or have had substantial influence on promoting and preserving the state’s aviation industry.
• contribute/or have contributed to the image of South Carolina as viewed on the state and national level.
• have/or have had a high level of respect within the state’s aviation community for performance, public service
  and political support.
